No to Judge Judy

UPDATE:  The end of a nuisance Lawsuit

Steve Eick here again. I want to confirm that we have been in discussions with the Judge Judy Reality TV show and decided to pass. Both Susan and I have been dismissed from the lawsuit and now Ms. McCarthy through her daughter is suing my 14-year old. Since Stephanie is being sued, a change of venue is her choice. She thought about the Judge Judy TV show, realized that she would miss two days of school and diving practice (She is on the high school diving team), and told me to pass. Both Susan and I support Stephanie’s decision. We had (and still have) the opportunity to do the Judge Mathis TV show which is filmed locally in Chicago. We both work and don’t see the logic in traveling to California to settle a dispute that could be resolved locally in a couple hours.

I am very proud of Stephanie. My daughter’s version of events is quite different from Ms. McCarthy’s and has now been corroborated by several other kids who witnessed the incident. Stephanie has received tremendous support from the other students at Waubonsie high school. Several students have come to tell her that they support her and will be her friend.

Diving practice my eye. Please stop the lying already. You just don't want your little irresponsible thief (or thief's accomplice) of a daughter to go before Judge Judy because you know full well that Judge Judy would throw the darn book at both her and you.

Every 14-year-old in America knows full well the monetary value of an iPod and covets one for themselves. There's no excusable reason in the world why Stephanie shouldn't have maintained possession of the iPod until she could have returned it directly into the hands of her friend who had been kind enough to let her use it.

As Stephanie's father, you should have immediately reinforced basic lessons of responsibility and respect for the property of others by buying a replacement iPod and insisting your daughter pay you back over time. But instead, you've chosen to teach her that it's OK to be an irresponsible jerk -- just like Daddy.

Shame on anyone for owning an Ipod in the first place. Apple even admits the young people making these things in China get 17 cents per hour! And to make matters worse, the local laws in that area of China require workers to be paid a minimum of 19 cents per hour!

Remember, I was on the phone with Melanie and Shannon when Stephanie told her story. It was the same story that Shannon has told us all along. Only Stephanies story has changed. Your wife was on the phone, too. You can lie to whomever you want, at least we know the truth
